Setting
Initial/main large-scale location:
QZ-242B (also known as "Mithaylia") : Distant world, wild, varied, full of life--- plenty of it dangerous. Lightly inhabited by colonists, researchers, and/or etc, though most personnel were withdrawn: structures and posts remain scattered across areas of planet, some still manned, some abandoned yet intact, some long ruined. All vehicles that were present were relatively limited range.
Planet was terraformed, massively increasing the amount and variety of life found on it. Terraforming monitoring and execution continues to be performed, though at a far slower rate and reduced scale than initial efforts. The process introduced, sometimes accidentally, a variety of species as well as inciting the evolution of new ones from imported or native bioforms.
Orbital platforms: All ships of any size capable of leaving orbit docked or landed at one of these orbital space stations. Only 1 in 20 or fewer ground-side locations were home to craft capable of actually reaching the platforms. Originally 20 were constructed, but only 6 remain crewed, with two more fully functional on automated systems and occasional maintenance team visits.

Mithaylia: Lifeforms
Life on Mithaylia is hyper-diverse. A 20 square kilometer rain forest might be home to dinosaurs and giant spiders, while an identically-sized region of similar terrain right next to it might have simple primates and highly-evolved predatory felines as its main inhabitants; both forest grids could easily contain killer plants and/or be hunting grounds to giant Pteranodons.
In terms of land animals, however, two forms of life, however, are the most common: reptiles and arthropods. (Fish and cephalopods are common in water.)
